Women's tennis player's Tjasa Jezernik of Nevada and Siayareh Rambally of SMU were named to the first team 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII and VI Women's At-Large Teams, respectively.

Jezerenik, a senior, from Celje, Slovenia, was named to this team because of her academic excellence in Psychology. The student-athletes named to this team had to have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or a key reserve. She is now eligible for the Verizon Women's At-Large Academic All-American team, which will be announced on Thursday, June 13, 2002.

Jezernik accumulated a 12-7 mark at the No. 1 singles position and was named first team All-WAC in singles. She was also named to the second team All-WAC doubles with partner Biljana Trpeska. The duo netted a record of 14-6 as the No. 1 doubles team for the Pack this season.

Rambally, a junior from Allen, Texas, holds a 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in Chemistry. Rambally is one of eleven student-athletes to be named to the prestigious team, and is one of only two student-athletes to have a 4.0 on the first team. The eleven student-athletes were picked by members of the College Sports Information Directors of American from District VI. District VI represents all NCAA Division I schools in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

A transfer from North Texas prior to her sophomore season, Rambally led the 2002 Mustangs with a 21-10 record overall, going 17-9 during dual match season.

Along with the other ten representatives, Rambally will now advance to the national ballot and have a chance to earn Verizon Academic All-America honors. That team will be announced Thursday, June 13.
