PLAYER OF THE WEEK San Jose State third baseman Kevin Frandsen, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif. (Ballarmine Prep), hit .467 (7-15), drove in seven runs and scored five runs in four wins for the Spartans last week. Frandsen opened the week with a 2-for-4 performance against No. 9 Stanford. He scored twice, had a RBI, and in the field, he was part of three double plays. In a three-game sweep of Hawai'i, Frandsen was 5-for-11 from the plate with a double, a home run and six RBI.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK San Jose State right-handed pitcher Jeremy Rogelstad, a senior from Benicia, Calif. (Benicia HS), dominated Stanford on Wednesday night, throwing a complete game shutout in the 12-0 victory. Rogelstad (7-4) allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out six. It was just his second win in his last nine appearances. Rogelstad was also named the NCBWAs National Pitcher of the Week.

OTHERS NOMINATED Other player of the week nominations included:
Cullen Simmons, Sr., OF, Louisiana Tech - had multiple hits in all four games last week. Simmons hit .556 (10-18), scored eight runs and drove in three.
Matt Maguire, Sr., SS, Nevada - played in three of the Packs four games and was 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs. Maguire drove in all five runs on Sunday against Louisiana Tech and was 3-for-3 in the game.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included:
Bob Runyon, Sr., Fresno State - struck out a career-high 12 batters in a complete-game 11-1 victory against Sacramento State. Runyon allowed just six hits and two walks in recording his eighth win of the season.
Casey Blalock, Sr., Louisiana Tech - was 1-0 in two appearances last week for the Bulldogs. Blalock picked up a win pitching a complete game versus Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday. He struck out five and allowed three earned runs in the contest.
James Holcomb, So., Nevada - picked up a win and a save in two appearances against Louisiana Tech last week. Holcomb struck out the only batter he faced on Friday for the save and pitched 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits, seven runs (five earned) and four walks in recording his second win of the year on Sunday.

SAN JOSE STATE EXTENDS STREAK TO SIX For the third time this year, San Jose State has put together a six-game winning streak. The Spartans swept Hawaii and defeated No. 7 Stanford last week to improve to 39-13 on the year. San Jose State has won 13 of its last 14 games. During its current six-game winning streak, the Spartans are hitting .378 and has a team ERA of 3.21. Outfielder Dino Quintero is hitting a team-high .483 during the streak.

TOP 25 TEAMS MEET IN HOUSTON All six teams are involved in conference games this week, but the San Jose State-Rice series will involve two top 25 squads. No. 2 Rice hosts No. 22 San Jose State beginning Friday evening. The teams met in early April in San Jose where Rice won two of three games. The one loss is the only conference miscue for the Owls this year. In other action, Louisiana Tech travels to Hawaii for a series beginning Thursday and Nevada hosts Fresno State on Friday. Louisiana Tech won two of three in mid-April at home while Fresno State swept Nevada, April 19-21, in Fresno.

RICE COULD CLINCH THIS WEEKEND Rice could clinch the WACs regular-season title if it wins two of three games against San Jose State. The Owls magic number is four. If Rice wins the WAC championship, it would be the Owls sixth straight league or divisional championship.

STREAKING Fresno State third baseman Casey McGehee currently has the WACs longest hitting streak at 26 games. McGehee is hitting .404 (44-109) with 16 RBI and 22 runs during that span. McGehee has started all 50 games for the Bulldogs and has hit safely in 43 of those contests. He is hitting .368 on the season with 42 RBI. The streak is also the longest in the WAC this year. The Fresno State school record is 38 games, while the WAC record is 45 games.

IN THE POLLS In this weeks polls, Rice is 2nd in the Baseball America poll, 2nd in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN poll and 2nd in the Collegiate Baseball poll. The Owls are also 2nd in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. San Jose State is ranked 22nd in Baseball America, 26th in Collegiate Baseball, 27th by Baseball Weekly/ESPN and 27th in the NCBWA poll.

NON-CONFERENCE In non-conference games, the WAC is 90-67 (.573). Fresno State is 13-16 (.448), Hawaii is 11-14 (.440), Louisiana Tech is 14-11 (.560), Nevada is 13-12 (.520), Rice is 19-7 (.731) and San Jose State is 20-7 (.741).

BASEHITS Fresno State: the Bulldogs 15-game home winning streak came to an end in an 8-3 loss versus Sacramento State on Saturday ... it was Fresno States longest home winning streak since winning 27 in a row in 1988 ... head coach Bob Bennett (who is retiring at the end of the season) is the fifth winningest active coach in Division I with 1,296 victories ... he is four wins shy of becoming the seventh baseball coach in NCAA Division I history to reach 1,300 wins ... Hawaii: the Rainbows have lost 10 of their last 11 games ... Gregg Omori hit his first triple of the year on Saturday against San Jose State ... it was the only triple hit by a WAC player last week ... junior pitcher Chris George has all four conference wins for the Rainbows this year ... junior 3B Brent Cook leads the WAC in stolen bases (17-for-19) ... Louisiana Tech: the Bulldogs have won two of their last four games after a seven-game losing streak ... Tech hit 10 home runs in four games last week ... the Bulldogs had their highest scoring WAC series last week with 29 runs against Nevada but also gave up the most runs in a WAC series with 28 ... Louisiana Tech has lost five of its last six road games by one run and is embarking on a six-game road trip beginning Thursday in Honolulu ... Tech has an ERA of 4.38, 1.21 better than last year ... Nevada: has won four of its last eight games after a six-game losing streak ... pitcher Darrell Rasner has not pitched since April 26 due to a shin injury ... senior shortstop Matt Maguire played in his 214th game last week, a new Pack record ... senior Curtis Wickwire has 11 hits this season, eight of which are home runs ... the Pack led the WAC in hitting (.316) and home runs (73) last year but are third in hitting (.295) and home runs (52) this season ... Rice: has won 27 of its last 31 games (.871) ... the Owls 11-game winning streak is its longest since winning 12 in a row in 1999 ... Rice is 20-0 in games decided by five or more runs ... the Owls are 8-2 against ranked teams this year ... Rice is 11-0 in Saturday games this year ... Rice has won 17 home games in a row and 15 WAC home games in a row ... Rice leads the WAC in hitting (.331) and ERA (2.81) ... Rice pitchers have struck out 415 batters in 426.1 innings ... in conference games only, the Owls are hitting .370 and have the top five hitters in the league led by freshman Vincent Sinisis .512 average ... the Owls have 45 stolen bases, one more than their total from last year ... Sinisi is the only WAC player with an overall batting average over .400 (.416), 47 points higher than the next best player in the WAC ... San Jose State: the Spartans have won 13 of their last 14 games ... San Jose State is the only team in the WAC undefeated in extra inning games (4-0) ... SJSU is third nationally in fielding percentage (.973) ... senior second baseman Gabe Lopez has the WACs best fielding percentage (.979) for any player with at least 100 assists (123-154-6) ... catcher Adam Shorsher leads the WAC with 13 home runs hitting his 13th, a solo shot, on Sunday in the bottom of the ninth to beat Hawaii, 4-3.

POSTSEASON The WAC does not have a postseason tournament, but the regular season champion as determined by winning percentage in conference games will earn an automatic berth into this years NCAA Tournament which begins May 31.
