HOUSTON Rice's opening round game Texas in the College World Series will be Saturday at 6 pm (CDT), the NCAA announced Monday. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN with Mike Patrick and Harold Reynolds.
The Owls (52-12) and ranked number-one in the country in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll, will be making their third trip to the CWS in Omaha after sweeping LSU by 6-0 and 3-0 scores last week in the Super Regional at Reckling Park.
Texas (53-15) is ranked number two in the nation after stopping Houston 5-2 in the third game of that Super Regional Sunday in Austin. The Cougars had won Friday's opener by a 2-0 score, but Texas forced Sunday's deciding game with a 17-2 win Saturday.
Other opening round games at Omaha's Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium were also announced Monday. On Friday, Georgia Tech (51-14) will take on South
Carolina (53-16) at 1 pm, followed by Nebraska (47-19) vs. Clemson (52-15) at 6 pm. Both Friday games will be televised by ESPN2.
Also on Saturday at 12:30 pm, CBS will televise Notre Dame (49-16) vs. Stanford (45-16).
The winner of the Rice/Texas game will meet the Notre Dame/Stanford winner Monday at 7 pm. The two losing teams will play Monday at 2:30 pm.
The survivors of the two four-team brackets will play for the national championship on June 22.
