Five WAC Tennis Players Earn All-America Honors

The SMU men's tennis duo of Johan Brunstrom and Eric Cohn, and Fresno State women's pair of Kim Niggemeyer and Simone Jardim,and singles player Chloe Carlotti were all named ITA All-Americans for the 2001-2002 year. The announcement was made by the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) on Tuesday.

The Brunstrom and Cohn pair went 20-11 on the year, highlighted by a trip to the finals of the ITA Indoor Doubles Championship in Dallas in November. Both Brunstrom and Cohn were named All-WAC first team. For Brunstrom, it marked the second straight year the Sweden native was named All-America in doubles play. Last year, Brunstrom was awarded with former Mustang Jon Wallmark.

For Fresno State, Kim Niggemeyer earned another All-America honor, after landing the singles title last season. Niggemeyer and partner Jardim earned All-America status as their doubles team went 29-10 on the season and earned first-team all-WAC honors. WAC Freshman of the Year, Chloe Carlotti made her way to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship, giving her the title of All-American.

To earn ITA All-American honors, a player must achieve one of the following: (singles) top 16 seed in NCAA Singles Championships, reach round of 16 in NCAA Singles Championships, or finish in the top 20 of the final Omni Hotels Collegiate; (doubles) top eight seed in NCAA Doubles Championships, reach quarterfinals of NCAA Doubles Championship, or finish in top 10 of final Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
