RUSTON Louisiana Tech announced Wednesday the hiring of former All-American Sarah Dawson as the schools new head softball coach.
Dawson spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at her alma
mater, Louisiana-Monroe.
Im very excited about this position, Dawson said. The Western Athletic Conference is full of talent and Im excited about the upcoming
challenge.
Dawson played collegiately for four seasons at Louisiana-Monroe, earning 1997 All-American honors her senior season after posting a 45-10
(.818) record while recording 31 shutouts and 446 strikeouts.
She is still ranked in the Top 10 by the NCAA in several categories including career victories (5th 120), career strikeouts (4th 1,280)
and career shutouts (4th 74).
Following her college career, Dawson was drafted by Womens Professional Fastpitch (WPF) and promptly earned the 1997 Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year awards as a member of the Orlando Wahoos.
Sarah is a young, energetic coach who has been successful as a player both at the collegiate and professional level, said Louisiana Tech
athletic director Jim Oakes. Im looking forward to her being successful as a head coach as well.
While working as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Monroe, Dawson worked primarily on pitcher development while also working directly with
catchers and outfielders.
Prior to working with the Louisiana-Monroe softball program, Dawson spent one season as an assistant coach at Marshall University.
