PREVIEWStarting this season, eight of the 10 WAC teams will compete in the tournament.
Tickets for the 2002 WAC Volleyball Tournament went on sale to the public Aug. 1. Ticket prices will be $30 for adults and $15 for children and students for an all-session pass (7 matches). All seats are general admission and prices apply to all age groups. For tickets, call the Nevada ticket office at (775) 348-PACK (7225).
At last seasons WAC Championship, in San Jose, Calif., Hawaii earned its second WAC Tournament title, defeating San Jose State, 30-22, 30-27, 30-22. The WAC landed three teams in the 2001 NCAA Tournament, Hawaii, Nevada and San Jose State. Nevada and San Jose State both fell to eventual national champion Stanford, while Hawaii lost to UCLA in the national regional semifinals.
All 10 volleyball teams started the 2002 season on Friday, Aug. 30 with tournament play. Hawaii and San Jose State earned honors in Volleyball Magazines 2002 preseason poll, Hawaii was ranked second in the nation behind Stanford. San Jose State also received votes in the poll.
