ATHLETES OF THE WEEK MEN - Forest Braden, a freshman from Bonners Ferry, Idaho, took first in his first collegiate meet. He finished with a time of 19:08.59 in the 6k at the Northwest Nazarene Open in Nampa, Idaho. Braden is a true freshman.
WOMEN - Robin Wemple, a sophomore from Victor, Idaho, took first in the 4k at the Northwest Nazarene Open in Nampa, Idaho. Wemple finished ahead of teammate Kayla Christensen, who finished second, by 12 seconds.

Women - Monica Joannes, Tulsa; Judy DeLong, San Jose State; Moshanda Sneed, Louisiana Tech; Abigail McAllister, Nevada; Victoria Chang, Hawai'i.
NOTES FROM THE COURSE - Boise State competed in the Northwest Nazarene Open, taking first on both sides ... the men were led by true freshman Forest Braden, who was competing in his first collegiate meet ... he won the 6k race with at time of 19:08.59 ... on the womens side, Robin Wemple grabbed the meets top honor with a time of 15:02.26 (4k).
The Fresno State men competed at the UC Irvine Invite, placing third in the 8k run. Fernando Cabrera took first with a time of 25:15.2 ... teammate Roosevelt Cook finished fourth coming in at 25:45.6 ... the Bulldog women won the Cal State Invite for the second-straight year ... Kara June again led the way, finishing first in the 6k event with a time of 22:01.2 ... Olga Gutierrez-Nunez finished just behind June with a 22:31.1.
Hawaii grabbed first at the Chaminade Invite ... they were led by Victoria Chang who finished third with a time of 18:39 ... behind her was teammate Hanna Bremler (18:58).
The Lady Techsters were in action last week at the Louisiana-Monroe Dual Meet ... Mashonda Sneed finished 18th to lead Louisiana Tech.
Nevada competed at the Hornet Harrier Classic in Sacramento, taking home the honors ... the Wolf Pack were led by Abigail McAllister who finished third in the 5k, with a time of 18:21 ... also helping the Pack to a first-place finish was Melis Garner who took fifth(18:38).
Both the San Jose State men and women attended the Cal Invite, both taking second ... the men were again led by Matt Heard ... he finished the four-mile run third, in a time of 20:25 ... for the Spartan women, Judy DeLong grabbed fourth in the three-mile run with a time of 16:51.
The Golden Hurricane competed at the Fayetteville Invitational ... both the men and women took second ... for the men, Andy Norman finished second in the four-mile run, crossing at 20:19.30 ... for the Cane women, Monica Joannes finished her two-mile event sixth, in a time of 17:58.80.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN DALLAS Dallas, Texas and SMU will play host to the 2002 WAC Championships. The event will take place on Saturday, November 2. The Rice men and Tulsa women will both look to defend their titles from the 2001 Championship held in Hawaii.
