OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kim Harvey, a junior from Garland, Texas, recorded her first-career hat trick against Baylor, helping the Mustangs to a 4-2 win in Waco. She also tallied the Mustangs only goal in a 2-1 overtime loss to Vanderbilt. On the week, she scored four goals on seven shots on goal for eight points.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Jessica Uecker, a sophomore transfer from South Carolina, directed the Wahine defensive unit, limiting Long Island to just seven shots and only two on goal. The Wahine outshot the Blackbirds 42-7 in the 6-1 win at the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Shootout.

OTHERS NOMINATED Offensive - BreeAnn Milligan of Boise State had two assists and a goal in the Broncos 4-3 win over Eastern Washington ... Natasha Kai of Hawaii set a new WAC record with 14 shots in a match against Long Island. She also posted two goals and an assist ... Annie Baxter of Nevada helped Nevada to a 2-1 record on the week, scoring a team-high three goals ... Vanessa Afonso of San Jose State scord two goals in a double-overtime win against Vermont ... Kate Stevens of UTEP registered three goals and four assists, helping the Miners to a 2-0 record on the week ... her eight points against Prairie View A&M is a single-match high this year in the WAC ... Danielle Fauteux of Tulsa led Tulsa to a 1-1 record, turning in her first career hat trick with a three-goal performance in a 5-2 win over Arkansas-Little Rock ... Defensive- Sarah Ramirez of UTEP assisted in limiting Miner opponents to only eight shots and one goal allowed.

THIS WEEK VS. THE TOP 25 SMU heads to Malibu, Calif, to face No. 24 Pepperdine this week. The WAC has not faired too well against the West Coast Conference, posting an 0-6 record on the season. The WAC is 0-8 on the season against top 25 opponents.

IN THE NET BOISE STATE - The Broncos ended a three match skid of 0-2-1 with a 4-3 win over Eastern Washington ... Boise State is now 3-1-1 on the road this season ... after the rally to come back and defeated EWU, the Broncos have now come from behind in each of their three wins.

FRESNO STATE - The Bulldogs faced two top five teams last week in No. 3 UCLA and No. 5 California ... facing the third ranked Bruins was the highest ranked opponent Fresno State ever faced ... including a game against No. 24 Pepperdine before the Pac-10 duo, the three straight games against ranked teams, was also a first.

HAWAII - Rainbow Wahine freshman keeper Mahie Atay earned MVP honors at the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Shootout in Honolulu ... Atay allowed one goal in just over 171 minutes of play ... Wahine freshman Natsha Kai, managed 14 shots against Long Island, setting a new WAC single-match record.

NEVADA - The Wolf Packs next win will match their total from both the 2000 and 2001 seasons of four ... sophomore Annie Baxter scored three goals in three games to lead the Wolf Pack ... head coach Dang Pibulvech picked up career wins 192 and 193, leaving him seven shy of 200.

RICE - The Owls only match up last week was with fourth ranked Texas ... in suffering a 7-0 loss, Rice remains winless on the season.

SAN JOSE STATE - Despite the Spartans 2-5 start, the teams that have defeated them are a combined 22-4-2 on the season ... Venessa Afonsos two goal game is the first of her career and her second multi-point performance.

SMU - Mustang head coach George Van Linder picked up his 50th win at SMU in a 4-2 win over Baylor ... SMU has now played in four ovetime games this season, leaving them one short of their season record of five (1996, 99, 00) ... Erin MacCallum netted her third game-winning goal in the 4-2 win over Baylor ... the Mustangs have a pair of first-time meetings as they head west to face Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.

UTEP - The Miners are off to their best start in program history at 7-0 ... in 1998 they opened 6-0, finishing first in the WACs Mountain Division at 13-6-1 ... UTEP already has 40 goals, six short of the schools single-season mark set in 1997 ... they also have 32 assists (14 back) and 112 points (24 back) this season ... the 12 Miner goals against Prairie View A&M is the fifth most in a match in the NCAA this year.

TULSA - Senior Golden Hurricane Julie Twellman posted her 23rd career goal against Arkansas-Little Rock, moving her into a tie for ninth with former Hurricane Paige Mayer ... freshman Danielle Fauteux leads Tulsa with 11 points on the season off of five goals and an assist.

SMU, UTEP CENTRAL REGION TOP 10s UTEP, who is off to a 7-0 start, and SMU, who 4-3, are both in SoccerBuzz Magazines Central Region Top 10. SMU is eighth, while the Miners are tied for 10th with Kansas. Texas heads the list, just ahead of Texas A&M, who SMU fell to, 2-1, in double overtime. SMU fell to ninth in the NSCAA/adidas Central Region top 10. Texas and Texas A&M head that list as well.

PIBULVECH CLOSES IN ON 200 Nevada head coach Dang Pibulvech needs just seven wins to reach the 200 win plateau. Pibulvech is currently 193-132-22 in his 19 years of coaching.

VAN LINDER EARNS 50TH WIN SMU head coach George Van Linder earned his 50th SMU win, in a 4-2 victory of Baylor. Van Linder posts a .729 winning percentage at SMU (50-18-2). He is currently 84-45-5 overall in his seven-year Divison I career.

PUTTING IN OVERTIME SMUs 2-1 loss to Vanderbilt this past weekend was their fourth overtime game this season. The Mustangs are now 2-2 when entering the extra periods. Along with the Vanderbilt loss, they fell to Texas A&M, 2-1, in double-overtime. The Lady Mustangs defeated Colorado College 3-2 in double OT, as well as knocked off Arizona State in one extra period, 2-1. The four overtimes is one short of the season record of five (1996, 99 and 00).

UTEP RECORD BREAKERS Senior Holly Cohen has already broken UTEPs single-season marks for goals (13) and points (31). Fellow senior Kelly Parker has also set a single-season mark for a Miner in just seven games, assisting on 10 goals. She is also the new career leader in assists with 21.

WAC PLAY, ONE MORE WEEK This is the final weekend of non-conference play, before facing WAC competition. WAC play begins on Friday, October 4 with four conference match-ups.

NEVADA GOES FOR FOURTH WIN The Nevada Wolf Pack need just one more win this season to tie the four wins the program posted in its first two seasons. The Wolf Pack face UC Irvine and Lond Beach State before heading into conference play.

WAC RECORD SETTER Hawaii freshman striker Natashai Kai, had 14 shots in the Wahine win over Long Island. The 14 shots is a new WAC single-game record. The record was formerly held by Stacie Savage of San Jose State, when she had 12 against Wyoming in 1997.

SMU FAVORED TO WIN 2002 WAC CROWN Defending Western Athletic Conference soccer champion SMU has been selected in a poll by the leagues coaches to defend its 2001 crown and earn its third-straight straight regular-season championship. SMU totaled seven first-place votes and tallied 63 points to top the poll. SMU is coming off a 16-4 season in 2001 in which the Mustangs earned their third WAC tournament title and an 8-0 conference record. Head coach George Van Linder welcomes back eight starters and 14 letterwinners, including WAC Player of the Year Tara Comfort and Freshman of the Year Jill Heinemann.

CONFERENCE DOMINANCE Defending regular season champions SMU once again finished the conference season undefeated. After going 6-0-1 in the 2000 season, the Mustangs managed an 8-0 record last season. They have not lost a regular season conference match since 1999. The Mustangs are 14-0-1 over the last two seasons. Their last defeat was a 1-0 loss to San Jose State on October 17, 1999. Since that loss, the Mustangs have not fallen in 18 straight conference matches.

FACING THE NATIONS BEST Nine teams that participated in the 2001 NCAA Tournament are opponents of WAC teams this season. National champion Santa Clara, UCLA, Denver, California, CS Fullerton, Texas A&M, Texas, Pepperdine and Kansas are all slated to face WAC teams in 2002.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON Houston, Texas and Rice University will play host to the 2002 WAC Tournament. The championship will be played at the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium, November 7-9. Six of the WACs nine participating schools make the tournament. The format will place the No. 3 seed against the No. 6 in the opening round, while seeds, 4 and 5 will square off. The 4/5 winner will face the No. 2 seed. The 2001 Championship was held at SMU, and the Mustangs took home the crown.

WOMENS COLLEGE CUP IN AUSTIN The 2002 edition of the NCAA Womens Soccer Championship will be held at Mike A. Meyers Stadium and Soccer Field on the campus of the University of Texas, December 6 and 8. The field of 64 will begin play hosts sites, November 15.

Teams are paired based on location. The top eight teams in the 64-team pool receive a seed. Seven of the top eight seeds serve as hosts for the first and second rounds, with nine additional schools hosting games. In the third round and quarterfinals, the team with the better record will serve as host.
