DENVER Hawaii forward Natasha Kai and San Jose States Erin Lavey have been named the Western Athletic Conference womens soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Kai, a freshman from Kahuku, Hawaii, tallied three goals in two games at the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Kai Oi Tournament. Against UAB, Kai had the game-tying goal in a 1-1 match with just 10 minutes left remaining. She also netted two more goals against Wyoming in 5-2 Rainbow Wahine win. She 13 shots against the Cowgirls to set a new school record.
Lavey, a freshman from Pleasanton, Calif., earned a shutout in her first career NCAA start. Lavey, who earned a .67 goals against average in 135:00 of play, allowing one goal in relief in a 4-0 loss to Loyola Marymount, but pitched a shutout against UC Riverside, winning 3-0.
Other offensive nominees included: Mariko Yoshihara, San Jose State; Kelly Parker, UTEP; and Lauren Mussallem, SMU.
Other defensive nominees included: Megan Tarpenning, Nevada and Kyla Clark, UTEP
