Cross Country Athletes of the Week (Sept. 30)

DENVER Fresno States Fernando Cabada and SMUs Karin van Rooyen have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens cross country Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Cabada, a junior from Clovis, Calif., finished in 14th at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 24:16 in the 8k race. This is the third time this season he has been the top Bulldog finisher. He helped the Bulldogs to a 15th place finish.

van Rooyen, a sophomore from Lothiar, South Africa, grabbed a third place finish at the Stanford Invitational in the 4k event, with a time of 13:55. The event had 105 runners competing. She helped the Mustangs to a sixth-place finish.

Additional mens nominees included; Miles Wiscombe, Boise State; Carlos Arrizon, Louisiana Tech; Matt Heard, San Jose State.

Additional womens nominees included: Robin Wemple, Boise State; Kara June, Fresno State; Victoria Chang, Hawaii; Emma Garrard, Nevada; Summer Bell, Rice; Judy DeLong, San Jose State.
