ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Sara Nordenstam, a freshman from Oslo, Norway, picked up three wins last weekend in Dallas, winning three individual events total against Rice and Houston. Against Rice, Nordenstam won early in the 400 IM, winning the event by nearly four seconds over the second-place finisher with a time of 4:15.93. She also grabbed first in the 200 breaststroke, landing the second-best time in the WAC this season with at mark of 2:15.61. Against Houston, she won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.71. She won all three events she competed in over the weekend.
OTHERS NOMINATED Yan Chen of Hawaii was the third leg in the 400 medley relay, posting a 56.12 in the fly. She also placed second in the 200 free (1:50.07) and captured first in both the 100 fly (56.44) and 400 IM (4:22.32) ...

Charlotte Pierce of San Jose State won three individual events and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:48.24). In her final home meet at San Jose State, she was first in the 200 freestyle (1:54.70), 50 freestyle (24.88) and the 100 fly (56.91).
TEAM NOTES FRESNO STATE - The Bulldogs will play host to San Diego State Feb. 1 at the Central Unified Aquatics Complex. This is the first home meet for Fresno State since its season opener against Nevada on Oct. 12. Last year, the Aztecs defeated the Bulldogs 158-140. Last week, Oregon State won eight of the first nine events to pace them to a 134-120 victory. Senior Jessica Klenner and sophomore Melissa Johnson led the Bulldogs with three top-three finishes apiece. Sophomore Carolyn Wigginton (100 Back) and junior Greer McGettrick (200 Breast) accounted for the two first place finishes for Fresno State at the meet.
HAWAII - The Rainbow Wahine fell to the Washington Huskies, 112-166, in their the final dual meet of the season, at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. The competition was fierce as Hawaii faced the Huskies for the second time this season. The Wahine finish dual meets with a record of 5-11. The Wahine will participate in the Senior Circuit, which is slated for Feb. 7. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
NEVADA - The Wolf Pack improved to 9-1 on the season with a 175-125 victory over instate rival UNLV, at Lombardi Pool in Reno, Nev. Nevada won 10-of-16 events in the meet to claim its ninth dual victory of the season. The loss dropped the Rebels to 8-3 on the year. Freshman diver Devon Owen posted the best score by a Pack diver this season in the 3 meter with a score of 291.60. Nevada hosts WAC foe San Jose State Feb. 1 before the WAC Championship later in February.
RICE - Owl Elaine Lee broke a two-year-old school record Jan. 24, swimming a 2:01.77 in the 200 butterfly to eclipse former Owl Jada Sanders' mark of 2:02.05 in Rice's 122-70 loss to sixth-ranked SMU at Perkins Natatorium. Rice took first place in 11 of 16 events, as the Owls downed TCU 156-137 on Jan 25. Rice took first place in every event as the Owls swept, UNT 74-36, ULM 80-30 and Austin College 83-9.
SAN JOSE STATE - The Spartans defeated Cal Poly, 165-130 in the teams final home meet of the season. Senior Charlotte Pierce won three races to lead the Spartans. Six other Spartans who won races include Brooke Wells (1,000 and 500 free), Kiley Reinke (100 and 200 breaststroke), Lura Wilhelm (200 butterfly and 100 freestyle), Rachel Dutra (3-meter), Flora Montagni (200 back), Tracy Harkins (1-meter diving). San Jose State travels to Nevada next Saturday afternoon for a dual meet in Reno.
SMU - The No. 6 Mustangs travels to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Quad Meet Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The meet will be the last action for the Mustangs before trying for their seventh-straight WAC title, Feb. 26-28, in San Antonio, Texas. The Mustangs enter the Quad Meet with an overall record of 6-1. SMU defeated WAC foe Rice, 122-70, winning nine events on the day. The Mustangs closed their home schedule in fine fashion, dominating Houston, 143-80. The Mustangs won every swimming event competed in on the afternoon.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO The 2002 WAC Tournament will in San Antonio, Texas at the Palo Alto College Natatorium, February 26-March 1. SMU won the 2003 crown, landing its sixth title in as many years.
SMU IN THE TOP 25 The SMU Mustangs began the 2002-03 season ranked ninth in the nation, after finishing ninth in the 2001-02 NCAA Championships. SMU is currently ranked sixth nationally.
FRESNO STATE HIRES INTERIM HEAD COACH Former Fresno State water polo coach Tom Milich has been hired as the interim head coach of the Fresno State women's swimming and diving team. For the past 10 years, Milich has been the head coach of the Clovis Swim Club and the Aquatics Director of Clovis Unified School District. Under his tutelage, five swimmers have gone on to represent the United States in international competition while seven have competed at the NCAA Division I championships.
RIGAMONTI BREAKS U.S. OPEN RECORD SMU sophomore swimmer Flavia Rigamonti capped off a successful night for the No. 5 SMU women's swimming & diving team Nov. 22 at the 2002 FINA World Cup in Long Island, N.Y. by setting a new U.S. Open record in the 800 short course meter free event with a time of 8:17.20. Rigamonti's time broke the old mark of 8:17.32 set over 20 years ago on January 8, 1982. Rigamonti's U.S. Open record was one of six U.S. Open records that fell Friday night, including three American records and one world record.
