DENVER Fresno State forward Hiram Fuller has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for December 30-January 5.
Fuller, a senior from Tacoma, Wash. (Wabash Valley CC), averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of victories over Tulsa and Rice as Fresno State improved to 9-2 (2-0 in the WAC). Against the Golden Hurricane, Fuller scored a career-high 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and made 9-of-10 free throws, including all four of his attempts in the final two minutes. He followed that up with his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds versus the Owls. For the week, he was 11-of-20 (.550) from the field, 11-of-12 (.917) from the free throw line and added three assists, two blocks and two steals.
It was Fullers first ever WAC player of the week award and second consecutive for a Fresno State player this season.
The other nominations were junior guard Bryan Defares, Boise State; junior guard Carl English, Hawaii; senior guard Lavelle Felton, Louisiana Tech; senior guard Omar-Seli Mance, Rice; freshman guard Bryan Hopkins, SMU; and freshman guard Giovanni St. Amant, UTEP.
