ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Alyssa Chin, a sophomore from LaCanada, Calif., earned her second WAC Athlete of the Week honor of the season, picking up the title for the week October 28. Chin swam in six of the 10 events in the UC Irvine Sprint meet, winning four, helping the Wolf Pack win both the Sprint and Relay meets. She won the 100-yard backstroke (58.34), 200-yard IM (2:07.52), 100-yard free (52.88) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.42). Chin also placed second in the 200-yard free (1:53.33) and sixth in the 50-yard free (24.63).

TEAM NOTES
FRESNO STATE - The Bulldogs recorded a fifth-place finish at the UC Irvine Sprint Invitational. Fresno State finished with 130 points for the individual session, while they grabbed 43 points in the distance session.

HAWAII - The Rainbow Wahine and eight other schools participated in the Rainbow Invitational at the Aileen Soule Classic today, held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. Though the meet was not scored, it gave the teams a chance to train, as well as improve individual top times. Next up is the Hawaii Diving Invitational, scheduled for Jan. 7-8, starting at 9 a.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex. Dual meets resume Jan. 10, with a face off against Wisconsin and New Hampshire.

NEVADA - After winning the sprint meet at the UC Irvine Invitational in Irvine, Calif. on Jan. 4 the Wolf Pack swimming team captured the relay meet on Jan. 5 totaling 391 points in the seven team meet. Nevada defeated Loyola Marymount, 124-48 in Los Angeles for its fifth win of the season.

RICE - The Owls will head to Fort Collins, Colo., to face Colorado State on January 10.

SAN JOSE STATE - The Spartans will stay instate and head to Santa Barbara to face UC Santa Barbara on January 10.

SMU - The No. 7 Mustangs next meet is a dual against No. 3 Georgia, Jan. 18.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN SAN ANTONIO The 2002 WAC Tournament will in San Antonio, Texas at the Palo Alto College Natatorium, February 26-March 1. SMU won the 2003 crown, landing its sixth title in as many years.

SMU IN THE TOP 25 The SMU Mustangs began the 2002-03 season ranked ninth in the nation, after finishing ninth in the 2001-02 NCAA Championships. SMU has moved to seventh in the Dec. 10 poll. The Mustangs face the bulk of their schedule in January, beginning with a dual against No. 3 Georgia in Jan. 18.

FRESNO STATE HIRES INTERIM HEAD COACH Former Fresno State water polo coach Tom Milich has been hired as the interim head coach of the Fresno State women's swimming and diving team. For the past 10 years, Milich has been the head coach of the Clovis Swim Club and the Aquatics Director of Clovis Unified School District. Under his tutelage, five swimmers have gone on to represent the United States in international competition while seven have competed at the NCAA Division I championships.

RIGAMONTI BREAKS U.S. OPEN RECORD SMU sophomore swimmer Flavia Rigamonti capped off a successful night for the No. 5 SMU women's swimming & diving team Nov. 22 at the 2002 FINA World Cup in Long Island, N.Y. by setting a new U.S. Open record in the 800 short course meter free event with a time of 8:17.20. Rigamonti's time broke the old mark of 8:17.32 set over 20 years ago on January 8, 1982. Rigamonti's U.S. Open record was one of six U.S. Open records that fell Friday night, including three American records and one world record.
