PLAYER OF THE MONTH UTEP's Danielle King has been named November's Western Athletic Conference women's tennis player of the month.

King, a sophomore from Boston, Lincolnshire, England, won all of her flight four matches at the New Mexico Invitational. She defeated New Mexico's Allison Davis with a solid, 6-0, 6-1 win. She then had a come-from-behind win over UT-San Antonio's Massiel Martinez, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. She also added a straight set win over Air Force's Kellie Crail, 6-0, 6-2. She also teamed with Tea Spirta in doubles to win three of four matches in flight two doubles.

OTHERS NOMINATED Hawai'i's Kana Aikawa defeated Stanford's Jessica Leck, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. She was the only Rainbow Wahine to win a match in Hawai'i's 6-1 loss to No. 2 Stanford. It was her first career match as a Rainbow Wahine Rice's Erika Villalobos swept both singles opponents at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational, defeating Texas Tech's Iva Gyurgina 6-2, 6-2 and the host Aggies' Danielle Lee 6-1, 6-4. She teamed with senior Annie Goodrich to beat Texas A&M's tandem of Seva Iwinski and Lee 8-5. They finished the weekend 3-1 overall.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON This season, the Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held in Houston, Texas at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on the campus of Rice University, April 30-May 2. The 2003 champion, Fresno State, will look to win its third-straight title.

CARLOTTI RANKED IN ITAS TOP 25 IN SINGLES AND DOUBLES Fresno State junior Chloe Carlotti is ranked in the top 10 in the ITA preseason rankings announced Sept. 3 Carlotti, the reigning WAC Player of the Year, is ranked fifth in singles. Carlotti and doubles partner Lucia Tallo are ranked eighth in doubles. Tallo is also ranked 67th in singles. Rices Tracie Chong is 76th, while teammate Blair DiSesa is ranked 94th.

TULSA'S MUSCOLINO AND SOMERS FALL IN FINALS AT CENTRAL REGION CHAMPIONHSIPS Tulsa's Daniela Muscolino (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Ilona Somers (Putte, Holand) dropped an 8-4 decision in the doubles championship match at the 2003 ITA Central Region Championships at the Eccles Tennis Center on The University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City.

Muscolino and Somers, who boast an 8-4 mark during the fall season, advanced to the final match, posting an impressive 8-6 victory in the semifinals, over Oklahoma's second-seeded and 25th-ranked Anda Perianu and Heather Saluri. Unfortunately, Muscolino and Somers, the tournament's seventh-seeded doubles team, didn't earn a victory in the championship match, falling 8-4 to New Mexico's sixth-seeded Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski.

NEW LEADERSHIP Jamie Campbell takes the reigns as UTEPs new womens tennis coach.

Campbell was the head coach at Binghamton University in Binghamton, N.Y. for the last five years. She compiled a 55-53 dual match record, including 28-19 over the last two seasons.

Her 2002-03 Bearcats finished 16-8 and took second place at the America East Conference Championship. Binghamton set school records for victories and consecutive wins (13). Campbell was named the America East Conference Coach of the Year. Five of her players earned All-Conference recognition.

Campbell took over a Division II program at Binghamton and eased its transition into Division I. The Bearcats captured back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference titles in her first two years as head coach before making the move to Division I for the 2001-02 campaign.

Campbell was the 2000 NECC Coach of the Year. Binghamton had the NECC's Outstanding Doubles Team in 1999 and 2000, and the league's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2000.
