DENVER Louisiana Techs Amber Obaze has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec 15-21. This is the second WAC Player of the Week honor for the senior, who captured the honor during the 2001-02 season. This is the second player of the week honor for the Lady Techsters this season.

Obaze, a guard from Dallas, Texas, hit the biggest basket of the season, sinking a 30-foot bank shot with 1.2 seconds remaining to give Louisiana Tech an 87-84 win over No. 6 Penn State in State College. Obaze ended the game with 14 points, three rebounds, two blocks and one assist in 29 minutes of action. After Penn State hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left to tie the score, Obaze took the inbounds pass and dribbled into the frontcourt before hitting the three that won the game.

The win broke Penn State's 24-game home winning streak. Obaze was 6-of-9 from the field and 1-of- 2 from the free throw line. Her only three of the game was the game-winning shot. Obaze also blocked a three-point attempt with 17 seconds.

Also nominated: Veroncia Mack, Fresno State; Kate Beckler, Rice; Lamisha Augustine, San Jose State and Shanta Ramdhanny, SMU.
