DENVER Nevada guard Kirk Snyder has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for December 15-21.
Snyder, a junior from Upland, Calif. (Upland HS), averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in wins over Alabama State and No. 6 Kansas in the Dodge Holiday Classic. He played just 11 minutes in the 70-43 win versus Alabama State on Saturday, but on Sunday, Snyder tied his career-high with 29 points in Sundays victory over Kansas. He was 9-of-18 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line and also added nine rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal in the win. It was Snyders second ever WAC Player of the Week award and first for a Wolf Pack player this year.
The other nominations were senior guard Bryan Defares, Boise State; senior guard Shantay Legans, Fresno State; senior forward Phil Martin, Hawaii; freshman forward/center Paul Millsap, Louisiana Tech; junior forward Michael Harris, Rice; senior forward Brett Lilly, San Jose State; sophomore guard Bryan Hopkins, SMU; and sophomore guard/forward Jason Williams, UTEP.
