DENVER Tulsas Alicia Pillay has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens tennis Player of the Week.
Pillay, a senior from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, posted a 2-1 record from both the singles and doubles No. 1 positions at the USTA/ITA Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis. Pillay, the nations 20th-ranked player defeated Floridas Lindsay Dawaf, the nations seventh-ranked player, 6-3, 6-3. She also defeated Karin Coetzee, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, helping the Golden Hurricane to a, 4-3, upset-win over 28th-ranked Wake Forest. In doubles play, Pillay paired up with Aleksandra Durska, knocking off the seventh-ranked duo of Alexis Gordon and Julia Scaringe of Florida, 8-3.
