DENVER Hawaii shortstop Brian Finegan and Rice right-handed pitcher David Aardsma have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 10-16.

Finegan, a junior from Clovis, Calif. (Cuesta JC), hit .615 (8-13) in four games as Hawaii won all four games. He began the week with a 2-for-4 performance against Hawaii-Hilo and then went 6-for-9 in a three-game sweep of Sacramento State. Finegan also drove in three runs, scored twice, hit three doubles and was walked three times last week. He has hit safely in all seven games this season and leads the Rainbows with a .458 batting average.

It is Finegans first ever WAC Player of the Week award.

Aardsma, a junior from Denver, Colo. (Cherry Creek HS/Penn State), appeared in three games and picked up two saves for the Owls last week. Aardsma pitched 6.1 innings, walked one, allowed four hits and struck out seven. He earned saves over Texas-San Antonio and 19th-ranked Texas A&M and also pitched two scoreless innings yesterday against Alabama.

It is Aardsmas first ever WAC Pitcher of the Week award.

Other player of the week nominations included: sophomore outfielder/catcher Chris Gimenez, Nevada; sophomore shortstop Paul Janish, Rice; and junior DH Nick Guerra, San Jose State.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: senior Justin Cayetano, Hawaii; junior Brandon Gottier, Nevada; and sophomore Matt Durkin, San Jose State.
