Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (Feb. 17)

DENVER - UTEPs Taiwo Ajibade has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Ajibade, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, won the 60 meters title at the competitive Iowa State Classic. He won the race in a time of 6.67, .04 seconds better than his fastest time this season. The mark is also the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this season and moves his NCAA provisional mark up, .04 seconds.

Additional nominees included: Kyle Carano, Fresno State; Jerry LaPoint, Louisiana Tech; Tommy Oleksy, Rice and Mindi Pukstas, SMU.


Rices Allison Beckford has been named the Western Athletic Conference womens Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week.

Beckford, a senior from Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica, won the 400 meters at the Armory Track Invitational with both an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 52.34. The time is a new Armory Track and Field Center record, as well as the Armory Collegiate Invitational record. The 52.34 is the fastest time in the NCAA this season, 1.73 seconds better than her previous season high.
