GOLFER OF THE WEEK Nicholas Loar, a senior from Rockwall, Texas, finished second at the Tulane Invitational, Feb. 10-11. He helped the Mustangs to a second-place finish in their first tournament of the spring, firing a four-under, 213 (71-74-68). Loar finished three stokes off the winner, eighth-ranked Bill Haas of Wake Forest. On the second day of the event, Loar was the lone golfer to shoot a sub-70 round, carding a 68, moving him into second.

UTEPS BARYLA WINS SECOND SPRING TITLE - UTEP senior Chris Baryla, won his second consecutive title of the spring, taking honors at the Anteater Invitational in Newport Beach, Calif. He became the first Miner in eight years to win back-to-back tournaments, shooting a 213 (72-69-72), finishing three strokes ahead of the second-place finishers. His 71.5 stroke per round average is tops in the WAC.

TULSA WINS SECOND STRAIGHT MATLOCK COLLEGIATE - David Inglis again led the Hurricane to their second-straight title at the Matlock Collegiate Classic. Inglis has placed among the top-10 finishers in four of five starts, placing as the Hurricane top finishers in all five. At the Matlock Collegiate, Tulsas 866 three-round total, landed them first in the 18-team field. Inglis (211, -5), along with Chris Noel (214) and Billy Lowry (215) made a strong push, firing a team third-round total of 284, securing the win.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON The 2002 WAC Tournament will hosted by Rice in Houston, April 28-30. The championship will be held at the BlackHorse Golf Club (www.blackhorsegolfclub.com). Tulsa won the 2002 crown by five strokes over UTEP. Tulsa sophomore David Inglis took home the individual crown by 10 strokes over SMUs Ryan Abbate.
