ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chloe Carlotti, a sophomore from Paris, France, picked up the Bulldogs only win in a, 6-1, loss to No. 1 Stanford. Carlotti, the No. 27th-ranked player in the nation, defeated the nations 17th-ranked player, Amber Liu, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The sophomore All-American ran her record to 11-5 on the season, 2-0 in dual-match play.


NOTES FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE
Boise State - The Broncos opened play Feb. 2 in Salt Lake City, picking up a 7-0, win over Utah. Boise State hosts Gonzaga, Montana State and Idaho State this weekend, Feb. 7-9, in the Boise State Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

Fresno State - The 26th ranked Bulldogs return home this for a match against No. 17 UNLV. Fresno State is coming off a loss to No. 1 Stanford, 6-1. The lone victory came at the No. 1 singles, where 27th-ranked Chloe Carlotti knocked off No. 17 Amber Liu in three sets.

Hawaii - The Rainbow Wahine began the dual season in November, falling to No. 1 Stanford, 7-0. They return to action on Feb. 7 against Washington State. Hawaii begins a six-match west-coast road swing in Pullman.

Louisiana Tech - The Lady Techsters hosted SamHouston and Stephen F. Austin picking up a pair of, 4-3, wins. Lauren Longbothom rallied from a one set deficit to win her match and clinch the Lady Techsters' first victory of season over Sam Houston State. Against Stephen F. Austin, Holly Ready used a three-set match to clinch a 4-3 victory.

Nevada - The Wolf Pack open the 2003 season, in Las Vegas, taking on Weber State and New Mexico State. Their match with UNLV was cancelled to due to wind. Although beginning the season 0-2, Nevada was in each match, falling, 4-3, to both the Wildcats and Aggies.

Rice - The Owls got their season off on the right foot, sweeping Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Southwest Texas State in a pair of 7-0 victories. The Owls won all but one match on the day, dropping only the number-two doubles match against the Islanders. Rice takes to the road this weekend, facing SW Missouri State and Oklahoma State in Tulsa, Okla., and Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.

SMU - The Mustangs are undefeated (5-0) on the season, picking up a win over conference foe, UTEP. SMU has dropped only one point all season, defeating Centenary, 4-1. Up next for the Mustangs is a doubleheader, taking on Sam Houston State and SW Texas State, Feb. 8.

UTEP - The Miners took the doubles point, but Texas-San Antonio racked up five singles wins to top the Miners, 5-2, at the El Paso Tennis Club. Wind gusts caused the tennis match between UTEP and New Mexico to be postponed. UTEP returns to action on Friday at the El Paso Tennis Club when the Miners host Texas-Pan American at 2 p.m.

Tulsa - The Golden Hurricane split during their trip to Nashville, Tenn., falling to Vanderbilt, 7-0, but defeating Iowa, 5-2. Tulsa heads to Madison, Wis., for the National Team Indoors, Feb. 6.

ITA RANKINGS - Fresno State begins the 2003 season ranked 26th in the nation, earning 1,149 points. Boise State lands 53rd with 552 points, while Tulsa is just behind them at 56th. SMU rounds out WAC teams in the top 75 at No. 65.

The Fresno State duo of Chloe Carlotti and Lucia Tallo start off the 2003 season ranked 33rd in the country.

ranked in the top 25, coming in 20th. Carlotti, who advanced to the round of 16 in the 2002 NCAA Tournament, is ranked 27th.

WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE This season, the Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held in Boise, Idaho at the Appleton Tennis Courts on the campus of Boise State, April 25-27. The 2002 champion Fresno State Bulldogs will look to defend their title.
