Soccer Buzz Announces 2002 Postseason Honors
DENVER The 2002 Soccerbuzz Magazine honors were announced, placing nine WAC athletes on their respective teams. WAC Player and Freshman of the Year, Natasha Kai, was named to the West Region all-Freshman team. In the Central Region, Danielle Fauteux of Tulsa and UTEPs Kaletia Roberts were both named to the all-Freshman team. Holly Cohen and Kelly Parker of UTEP and Tara Comfort, Jill Heinemann and Sasha Andrew of SMU, all picked up second-team all-Region honors. SMUs Erin McLeod and Kim Harvey were selected to the regions third team.

Kai, a Rainbow Wahine freshman forward, set a new WAC record for goals in conference play, scoring 10 goals, four game winners, in eight matches. She also led the WAC in points with 23. Kai was the only WAC member to be named to a West Region team. Fauteux, who earned first-team all-WAC honors was named to the Central Regions all-Freshman team. Fauteux netted three hat tricks on the season, helping the Golden Hurricane to advance to the WAC Tournament. Roberts, who was named to the Central Regions all-Freshman team, was a main ingredient in UTEPs high-powered offense in 2002. She assisted on five WAC goals, helping UTEP set a new WAC record, with 30 assists in conference.

Seniors Holly Cohen and Kelly Paker, both first-team all-WAC members, were named to the Central Regions second team. The two paired up all season setting new WAC records. Cohen had 51 points (22 goals) on the season, helping the Miners to an NCAA best, 4.42 gpg average. Parker set a new conference record, assisting on 19 goals. Tara Comfort, Jill Heinemann and Sasha Andrews helped SMU to its second WAC title in as many seasons. In addition to the Central Region second-team honors, Confort, Heinemann and Andrews were all, first-team all-WAC members. The Mustangs were a penalty kick away from advancing to the round of 16 in this years Womens College Cup.

SMUs Kim Harvey, (second-team all-WAC) and goalkeeper Erin McLeod (first-team all-WAC), were both third-team all-Central Region selections. McLeod led the conference in goals against average at 1.19. She posted four shutouts in 18 games. Harvey finished fourth in the league in points with 38, posting the Mustangs only hat trick against Baylor.
