DENVER - Hawaiis Denise Dahlberg and Fresno States Jamie Southern were named the Western Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively. This is the first honor for each this season.
Dahlberg started all five games behind the plate and played in every inning for the Rainbow Wahine. She was named to the all-tournament team of the Malhini Tournament at catcher. She ended the week with a .467 batting average (7-for-15) with two doubles, home run, and four RBI. The catcher was 1-2 in steals and was perfect in the field in 26 total chances (2 assists). Hawaii has now won eight of its last nine games and stands in first in the WAC.
Southern ended the week with a 2-1 record, striking out 26 batters in 16.1 innings. The All-American pitchers now has 512 strikeouts in two seasons with the Bulldogs. She was the quickest Fresno State pitcher to reach the 500-strikeouts plateau. Her only loss on the week came against the No. 1 team in the country, UCLA. Southern picked up wins against BYU and Cal Poly.
