DENVER Rice outfielder Chris Kolkhorst and Nevada right-handed pitcher Mateo Miramontes have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 10-16.

Kolkhorst, a junior from Houston, Texas (Cypress Falls HS/Blinn College), hit .412 (7-for-17) in four games for the top-ranked Owls last week. Kolkhorst drove in the game-winning run on a double in the 10th inning against Texas on Tuesday. In three games at Hawaii, he was 6-for-12 with two RBI. He also scored four runs last week.

It is Kolkhorsts second career WAC Player of the Week award and second for an Owl this season.

Miramontes, a junior from Danville, Calif. (Monte Vista HS), pitched his third career complete game as Nevada beat San Jose State, 5-1, on Saturday. He allowed just one run and two hits while striking out seven batters. Miramontes faced 28 batters, just one over the minimum.

It is Miramontes first ever WAC Pitcher of the Week award and first for Nevada this season.

Other player of the week nominations included: junior infielder Casey McGehee, Fresno State; freshman outfielder/DH Matthew Inouye, Hawaii; senior shortstop Wade Robinson, Louisiana Tech; and senior second baseman Ryan Strain, Nevada.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: freshman Keahi Rawlins, Hawaii; senior Jon Lockwood, Louisiana Tech; and sophomore Wade Townsend, Rice.
