Rices Ryan Harlan will appear in the Faces in the Crowd section of the March 24 issue of
Sports Illustrated.
Harlan, a senior on the Rice mens track and field team, will be recognized by the magazine for winning his fourth-consecutive Western Athletic Conference indoor pentathlon title earlier this season. Harlan is the only male athlete in WAC history to win four-straight conference titles in any event.
En route to his record-setting performance at this years WAC indoor track and field championships, the Hewitt (Midway) native placed first in three of the five pentathlon events, and set a new school and conference record 4,058 points. He also helped the Owls to a second-place finish behind team champion SMU by scoring in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, long jump and high jump. Overall, Harlan was the high-point scorer for the meet with 32 points.
