2003 NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP - The 2003 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship were held Thursday, March 20 through Saturday, March 22 at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Ala. The host was Auburn University.

For the ninth time in the past 12 years, the SMU finished in the top four at the NCAA Championships. Behind Flavia Rigamonti's NCAA title run in the 500 and 1,650 free, the Mustangs finished fourth at the 2003 NCAA Championships. SMU totaled 281 points behind 20 All-American showings as the Ponies carded their highest finish since finishing third in the nation in 1998-99.

Rigamonti set a new WAC record in the 500 freestyle posting a mark of 4:37.72, passing the mark she at the 2003 WAC Championship. In defending her 1,650 freestyle title, she earned a time of 15:43.90, setting a new James E. Martin Aquatics Center record. Alenka Kejzar and Georgina Lee, were the only other Mustangs to earn medals. Kejzar finished second in the 200 I.M., posting a time of 1:57.28. Lee's time of 1:56.50 in the 200 Butterfly was good for third. Rice's Mandy Mularz earned All-America status, finishing seventh in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.69.

Defending National Champion Auburn capped-off a perfect season as the Tigers scored 536 points to win their second consecutive National Championship. Georgia took second with 373 points and Southern Cal claimed the third spot with 284. For complete coverage visit www.auburntigers.com/ncaaswim.

RIGAMONTI DEFENDS TWO TITLES - SMU's Flavia Rigamonti defended both her 500 and 1,650 National Titles. The sophomore from Poland, set a new WAC record in the 500 freestyle posting a mark of 4:37.72, passing the mark she at the 2003 WAC Championship. In defending her 1,650 freestyle title, she earned a time of 15:43.90, setting a new James E. Martin Aquatics Center record.

2003 WAC SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP - For the seventh-straight year, SMU won the team title at the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship. The Mustangs earned a total of 1006.5 points at the Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, finishing the championship with 16 gold medals, topping last season's gold medal total of 14. SMU was the first WAC school to ever break 1000 points.
