ATHLETE OF THE WEEKAlicia Pillay, a senior from Pietermaritzbug, South Africa, who is currently ranked eighth in the nation by ITA, won her only singles match of the week, 6-0, retired. She defeated Virginia Commonwealths Christina Arribas in a 5-2, Tulsa loss. This is the second player of the week award for Pillay, as she won on Feb. 10.

NOTES FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE Boise State - The Broncos went 2-1 on their three-day Colorado swing, picking up wins over Colorado State (6-1) and Air Force (4-3), but falling to Denver (3-4). The Broncos are off this week, but will host the Boise State Quad Mar. 14. Erin Polowski remains undefeated on the season, picking up seven wins from the No. 3 spot, and three from the No. 4.
Fresno State - The 16th ranked Bulldogs host a pair of upcoming matches. They will face No. 11 William and Mary, Mar. 6, then Penn on Mar. 10. Sophomore Chloe Carlotti moved up 16 spaces in the ITA singles rankings, landing at No. 11. She holds a 7-0 record from the No. 1 position.
Hawaii - The Rainbow Wahine travel back to the mainland for a three-match trip. Hawaii begins in with CS Riverside, then it is off to face CS Northridge and finally, UC Irvine. The Wahine have not played a match since a 4-3 loss to Santa Clara on the island, Feb. 25.
Louisiana Tech - The Lady Techsters travel to Alabama for two matches, taking on Birmingham Southern and Samford. Louisiana Tech is 2-4 on the season, but have not played three matches due to weather.
Nevada - The Wolf Pack dont get back into action until Mar. 14, when they will head to San Diego for matches with Temple and WAC foe, SMU. The will be looking for their first win.
Rice - The Owls will travel west to California again, this time they will face San Diego State and Long Beach on their home courts, but will have a neutral matches with Penn and Yale. They have four matches in five days, beginning Mar. 11.
San Jose State - The Spartans picked up their second win of the season, knocking off UC Santa Cruz, 6-1. This week they travel to San Francisco for a battle of the bay with USF.
SMU - The Mustangs dropped their fourth straight, falling to 22nd-ranked VCU, 3-2. The match was shortened due to cold weather. There was one doubles and four singles matches played. VCU picked up the doubles point, but split the singles points with the Ponies.
UTEP - The Miners bropped both their matches in Houston, falling to Houston and Rice, 6-1. The losses move their record to 2-6, 0-2 in the WAC. The match with NMSU was moved to April 16, due to weather in Las Cruces, N.M.
Tulsa - The Golden Hurricane fell below .500, suffering a 5-2 loss to No. 23 Virginia Commonwealth. Alicia Pillay became the eighth-ranked player in the nation with the release of the February 26th ITA rankings, marking her highest ranking during her career, after entering the spring season as the 20th-ranked player in the nation. She currently boasts a 23-4 record on the year, with an 8-4 record against ranked opponents.
ITA RANKINGS - Fresno State is currently ranked 16th in the nation, the highest WAC team. Tulsa is 52nd, while Boise State is currently 60th. SMU rounds out WAC teams in the top 75 at No. 71. Tulsa senior, Alicia Pillay became the eighth-ranked player in the nation with the release of the February 26th ITA rankings, marking her highest ranking during her career, after entering the spring season as the 20th-ranked player in the nation. Fresno State sophomore Chloe Carlotti moved up 16 spaces, landing 11th in the nation. She owns a 7-0 record this dual season.
How an Average is Determined - A player/team's average is determined from the total number of ranking points (from 8 best singles wins/7 best doubles wins) divided by the number of countable matches played (countable victories (8 this week for singles/7 for doubles) added to points from all losses). There are no changes to the points/formula used from last season, with the exception that 8 wins were counted rather than 7 for this ranking.
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE This season, the Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held in Boise, Idaho at the Appleton Tennis Courts on the campus of Boise State, April 25-27. The 2002 champion Fresno State Bulldogs will look to defend their title.
