NOTES FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE Boise State - The Broncos, who havent had a match in two weeks, host the Boise Invitational, March 7-9 in the Boas Indoor Tennis Center. The Broncos will host Sac State, Portland State and Idaho in the tournament.
Fresno State - The Bulldogs (6-4), ranked No. 61 in the nation, travel to the Pacific Northwest for two matches this week. The Bulldogs take on 10th-ranked Washington on Friday at 2 p.m. then No. 41 San Diego on Saturday at noon. Both matches take place at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Hawaii - The Rainbows play host to Marquette, Mar. 10. Hawaii looks to get back on track, after losing four of its last five.
Nevada - The Wolf Pack dropped three, moving their record to 1-9. Nevada continues with its California swing, as it takes of UC Riverside and tries to avenge its loss against Cal Poly.
Rice - The Owls suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 13th-ranked Minnesota. The doubles team of Richard and William Barker remain atop the ITA National Rankings, posting a perfect 5-0 record on the season. The Owls match with No. 16 Texas was cancelled to due weather, but will be made up in Houston on April 16.
SMU - The Mustangs fell in their only match of the week, playing to a weather-shortened, 3-2 loss to No. 19 VCU. The teams agreed on a four-singles, and three-doubles set up. SMU is on the road for a tough test, traveling to No. 16 Texas.
Tulsa,/b> - The Golden Hurricane dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 19 VCU in their only match of the week. Tulsa hosts Michigan State, Drake and Cowley County this weekend.
ITA RANKINGS - SMU is currently ranked 40th in the nation, while Rice moves up to 35th. Tulsa (56), Fresno State (61) and Boise State (69), who re-entered the list, rounds out WAC teams in the top 75. The Rice twin duo of juniors Richard and William Barker continue to be ranked No.1 in the nation, after starting off the 2003 season at the top spot. The two won the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships doubles title in November. It was the first indoor national men's doubles title in Rice history. Fellow Owl, freshman Robert Searle, is the highest ranked WAC athlete, coming in at No. 20. Richard and William Barker are currently ranked in the top 40 in singles also, at 23 and 35, respectivley
WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN BOISE This season, the Western Athletic Conference Tournament will be held in Boise, Idaho at the Appleton Tennis Courts on the campus of Boise State, April 25-27. The 2002 champion SMU Mustangs will look to defend their title.
