GOLFER OF THE WEEK Nick Watney, a senior from Dixon, Calif, grabbed his first top honor of the spring season, taking home the title at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. Watney broke a 27-year old course record with a 199 (67-64-68), notching his fifth individual title of the 2002-03 year. In taking his 10th career title, he finished 17 under, bettering the course record by 10 strokes. Watneys finish helped the Bulldogs to their first win of the spring.

OTHERS NOMINATED Nicholas Loar of SMU fired rounds of 69-72-72 (213) to finish tied for sixth at the Border Olympics. His total equaled his lowest tournament total of the season. ... David Inglis of Tulsa placed second in a field of 75 golfers. He carded rounds of 74-71-69 (214) for a two-under. In the final round 69, he shot 31 (-5) on the front.


WAC TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN HOUSTON The 2002 WAC Tournament will hosted by Rice in Houston, April 28-30. The championship will be held at the Houstonian Golf Club (www.houstonian.com). Tulsa won the 2002 crown by five strokes over UTEP. Tulsa sophomore David Inglis took home the individual crown by 10 strokes over SMUs Ryan Abbate.
