The SMU men's golf teams sits alone in 27th place midway through the 2003 NCAA Championship after a day two score of 319 (+31) on the par 72, 7,301 yard Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla. For the tournament, SMU is 59 over (635) while UCLA holds a slight one shot advantage over host Oklahoma State at 22 over (598) for the tournament. Auburn's Lee Williams is leading the individual race at three under (141) for the tournament.
On Wednesday, SMU was led by the play of 2003 WAC Freshman of the Year Will Dodson who posted a four over total of 76 on the day. Dodson had birdies on No. 3, No. 7, and No. 17 on the day to place him in a tie for 63rd place entering Thursday's third round. Senior Stephen Sparolini is leading the Mustang pack after a six over-par 78 on Wednesday. Sparolini is tied for 54th place at 11 over (155) for the tournament. Sparolini's round two consisted of birdies on No. 1, No. 6, and No. 12.
One shot behind Dodson is junior Scott Abbott who posted a second round 81 (+9) and is tied for 77th in the tournament. Seniors Brock Mulder and Nicholas Loar struggled again Wednesday as the duo posted rounds of 84 and 88, respectively, in Stillwater. Loar is battling injuries that developed during Tuesday's first round of action.
The Mustangs begin the third round in the first set of groups off beginning at 7:00 a.m. off the first tee.
