Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada junior first baseman Erick Streelman has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Baseball Team. Streelman's name will now appear on the national ballot to determine the baseball Academic All-Americans.
The Bellflower, Calif. native has a 3.98 grade point average in Secondary Education.
The Pack's starting first baseman, he is currently batting .348 with eight doubles, four home runs and 23 runs batted in. The .348 batting average ranks eighth in the Western Athletic Conference and his .444 on base percentage is fifth in the conference.
A tight end on the Wolf Pack football team, he also garnered 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII football honors and was a first team Verizon Academic All-America football selection.
