DENVER Rices Steve Magness and Nevadas Ginny Johnson have been named the Western Athletic Conference mens and womens cross country Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Magness, a freshman from Klein, Texas, won his first collegiate meet. He edged out a pair of unattached runners by two and four seconds to win the Rice Invitational. He led the Owls, as they had three of the top six spots.
Johnson, a sophomore from Bend, Ore., had the best finish of her career, finishing as the top scorer at the Aggie Open. Johnson had never finished the season with even a top-five finish.
