UTEP swept the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational in Santa Teresa, N.M., taking home both the men's and women's team titles. The Hurricane men secured their fourth-straight Hurricane festival title. There are five WAC schools with races under their belt for the 2003 season, with Fresno State, Hawaii and SMU beginning action this weekend.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN
Owain Matthews, a native of Luton, England, finished third at the Hurricane Cross Country Festival in Tulsa Okla., with a time of 21:32 over the four-mile course. Mathews helped the Hurricane to claim their foruth title.

WOMEN
Adriana Pirtea, a sophomore from Bucharest, Romania, was the top finisher for the Miners, posting a time of 16:39 at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational. Along with two other Miners placing in the top five, Pirtea helped UTEP to a first-place finish.

OTHERS NOMINATED
Men - Dirk de Heer, UTEP and Victor Ortiz, San Jose State.

Women - Ashleigh Nebeker, San Jose State and Monica Joannes, Tulsa.
