DENVER Rice forward Michael Harris has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for January 5-11.
Harris, a junior from Hillsboro, Texas (Hillsboro HS), averaged 24.3 points and 12.0 rebounds in three conference victories for the Owls last week. He had double-doubles in all three games including a career-high 30 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in an 81-61 win against Boise State. For the week, he was 28-of-41 from the field (.683) and 4-of-4 from three-point range. It was Harris second ever WAC Player of the Week award and first for an Owl player this year.
The other nominations were senior guard Shantay Legans, Fresno State; senior guard Michael Kuebler, Hawaii; freshman forward/center Paul Millsap, Louisiana Tech; junior guard Kirk Snyder; and senior guard Jason Parker, Tulsa.
