And then there were two. There are two WAC teams undefeated in league play, Hawai`i and Rice. They are also the two teams that are either ranked or receiving votes. The Rainbow Waine are No. 6, while the Owls have received votes the last two weeks.

Hawai`i beat the Fresno State Bulldogs 30-17, 26-30, 30-27 and 30-23 in front of a crowd of 2,458 in UH's 2004 WAC opener at the Save Mart Center on Sept 30.

Tara Hittle had a career night for the Rainbow Wahine, hitting .625 with 22 kills, 10 digs and seven assists. Victoria Prince added 16 kills and six blocks while hitting .484, while Alicia Arnott (17 kills, 14 digs) and Susanne Boogaard (14 kills, 17 digs) both added double-doubles. Kanoe Kamana`o had another solid match with 63 assists, 16 digs and six blocks, while Ashley Watanabe led all players with 23 digs on the match.

Rice stayed undefeated in WAC action with a 30-28, 21-30, 30-18, 30-20 victory against Boise State on Sept. 30 in Boise, Idaho.

While the Owls led for all but the first point in game one, the Broncos did not allow Rice to pull away, tying the score four times. Rice held on down the stretch to take the first game behind the strong hitting of Rebeca Pazo and Rebecca Kainz. Pazo had six kills while Kainz added five on .559 hitting.
