DENVER Hawaii left-side hitter Alicia Arnott has been named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 18. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the year for the sophomore and the first for her career.

The Hilo, Hawaii native, averaged 6.14 kpg and 3.71 dpg in two road conference matches last week. She achieved a rare feat, as she put up a career-high 30 kills and 19 digs, while hitting .463 at SMU on Oct. 16. It was the first 30-kill match by a Hawaii player this season. Arnott also became the first Rainbow Wahine player to hit over .450 and have 30-plus kills since Teee Williams-Sanders had 44 kills and a .493 hitting percentage at UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 8, 1989. The sophomore also added 13 kills and seven digs at Louisiana Tech on Oct. 14.

Arnott helped extended UHs WAC winning streak to 84 matches and its winning streak against unranked opponents to 188. This week, the Western Division leading Rainbow Wahine take on the Eastern Division leading Rice Owls in Honolulu on Oct. 21. Both teams are undefeated in WAC matches this season.

Other nominees included: Yuko Mori, Fresno State; Natalie Shipp, Louisiana Tech; Salaia Salave`a, Nevada; Rebeca Pazo, Rice; Dana Rudd, San Jose State; Beth Karasek, SMU and Katie Smith, UTEP.
