Tulsa, Okla. - Daniela Muscolino continued rolling over opponents as she advanced to the finals in singles competition at the Wilson/ITA Region V Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Muscolino, the tournament's No. 1 singles seed, played two matches in the fourth day of competition. In the quarterfinals match-up, Muscolino faced No. 7 seeded Maria Rosenberg (Kansas State), winning 6-2, 6-0. In semifinals, Muscolino defeated No. 5 seeded Iva Gersic 7-5, 6-3. Muscolino's five wins in the tournament gives her fifty-three wins on the all-time wins list, she is in sole position of ninth on the list.
In doubles competition, Muscolino and teammate, freshman Carla Zabaleta, seeded third, breezed past Alissa Ayling and Nadja Woschek (Boise State), 8-2, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Golden Hurricane duo faced No. 2 seed Yanick Dullens and Suzana Maksovic (Denver), losing a hard fought battle, 8-6.
The Wilson/ITA Region V Championships finals will begin Sunday, October 24, at 10 a.m. With Muscolino qualifying for the finals, she is automatically qualified for the singles competition at the Wilson/ITA Individual championships. The winner of the doubles tournament advances to the Wilson/ITA Individual Championships, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Nov. 4-7, as well.
