DENVER SMU defender Kimber Bailey and Hawaii defender Jessica Uecker have been named the Western Athletic Conference womens soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

Bailey, a freshman from Garland, Texas, scored two of SMUs three goals in the opening week of conference play. She had the teams lone goal in the, 1-1, draw with Fresno State and scored the first goal in a, 2-1, win over San Jose State. She leads the Mustangs with five goals on the season and contributes strongly on both offensive and defensive sides.

Uecker, a senior from Rapid City, S.D., anchored the defense that posted two shutouts against Rice and Tulsa. Hawaii has now posted five-straight shutouts, a new school record. Uecker limited Rice and Tulsa to a combined six shots-on-goal while adding an assist in the win over Tulsa.

  • Other offensive nominees included: Lisa Balsama, Boise State; Natasha Kai, Hawaii and Jami Tullis, UTEP.

  • Other defensive nominees included: Kim Parker, Boise State; Erin Droeger, Rice and Brittany Popoff, UTEP.
