EL PASO, TEXAS -- UTEP freshman guard Vernon Carr is out 2-6 weeks with a stress fracture in his shin, Miner head coach Doc Sadler announced on Monday. No surgery will be required.
"It's very disappointing because he is a really hard-working guy and you could see a lot of promise," said Sadler. "Unfortunately this is going to set him back a little bit, but we are looking forward to his return."
A Detroit native, the 6-0, 170-pound Carr played his prep ball at Redford (Mich.) High School. He averaged 19 points, six rebounds and five assists as a senior. He earned All-State, All-City, All-District and Dream Team All-Metro honors last year, helping Redford High to a 22-3 record and the Final Four of the state playoffs.
The Miners begin practicing on Saturday, Oct. 16.
