Boise State volleyball player Heather Malaschak, a 6-2 senior middle blocker, is ranked 21st in the nation in blocks this week. She has tallied 16 solo blocks and 81 block assists for a total of 97 blocks in 60 games. Her per game average, on which the NCAA statistical rankings are based, is 1.62. She is also ranked first in the Western Athletic Conference for blocking average in overall matches.
The Broncos (14-3 overall, 3-1 WAC) are in the midst of their best season since 1998. This week the team continues WAC play, traveling to play at fourth-ranked Hawaii (Friday) and San Jose State (Sunday).
Malaschak highest number of blocks in a match this year is 11, which she tallied in a five-game match against Portland on Sept. 10. Malaschak is a graduate of Capital High School and played her first three years of collegiate volleyball at Arkansas State, transfering to Boise State for her senior year.
