DENVER SMU junior Peter Oredsson has been named October's Western Athletic Conference Mens Tennis Player of the Month.
Oredsson, a junior from Gavle, Sweden, had a strong showing at the Icy Hot/ITA Mens All-American Championships in early October. Entered in the pre-qualifying draw, Oredsson would have to play up to eight matches just to gain entry into the main draw, which consisted of the top players in the country. Six days and eight matches later, Oredsson qualified for the main draw. He was the only player in the country to begin in pre-qualifying to make it into the main draw out of 350 competitors.
In his first main draw match, Oredsson fell to No. 54 Clayton Almedia, but that did not discourage him. He went on to the consolation bracket and picked up two more wins. One win coming against No. 32 Janne Holmia of Florida.
