DENVER Nevada forward Nick Fazekas has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for November 15-21.
Fazekas, a sophomore from Arvada, Colo. (Ralston Valley HS), was named the MVP of the Jim Thorpe Classic after averaging 27.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in two wins for the Wolf Pack. Fazekas scored 27 points in back-to-back games against CU-Colorado Springs and Georgia State. He was 23-of-29 from the field (.793), including 3-of-4 from three-point range. It is Fazekas second WAC Player of the Week award in his career.
The other nominations were senior guard/forward Jermaine Blackburn, Boise State; sophomore guard JaVance Coleman, Fresno State; sophomore forward Paul Millsap, Louisiana Tech; senior forward Michael Harris, Rice; sophomore forward Devon Pearson, SMU; and senior forward Omar Thomas, UTEP.
