San Jose, CA Sophomore libero Jessie Shull had a record 42 digs for the San Jose State volleyball team, but the Spartans fell in four games to Fresno State, 30-27, 30-28, 22-30, 34-32, Wednesday evening in a Western Athletic Conference match at The Event Center.

Shulls 42 digs breaks the old San Jose State match record of 38 set by Lisa Ice against Hawaii in 1986 and against Cal Poly in 1986. Shull also broke the WAC single match record of 38 set by Suzanne Stonebarger against the Spartans during the 2000 season.

The Spartans rallied in game three after losing the first two games, 30-27 and 30-28. San Jose State won game three handily, 30-22, before going into a fight with the Bulldogs in game four. Fresno State prevailed the two hour and 10 minute match with a 34-32 win in game four.

Sarah Christensen led the Spartans with 19 kills and added 12 digs and two blocks. Carrie Nash added 18 kills and 15 digs. Jennifer Senftleben added 11 kills, six blocks, five digs and three service aces. Dyana Thompson came off the bench and recorded seven kills and four blocks. Danielle Orong had a season high 17 digs in the loss. Setter Kristina Conrad had 52 assists, 14 digs and three blocks.

San Jose State falls to 14-10 overall and 5-6 in the WAC. The Spartans host Nevada Saturday evening in a WAC match at The Event Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. During the match, the 1984 Final Four team will be recognized.
