LONG BEACH, Calif. - University of Hawai`i sophomore setter Kanoe Kamana`o and junior middle Victoria Prince were named to the AVCA All-America Teams today. Kamana`o earned first-team honors while Prince was named to the second team.
Kamana`o was the WAC Player of the Year this season, averaging 13.62 assists, 3.09 digs and 1.15 blocks per game. She had 22 double-doubles in assists and digs this season. This is the second-straight year that the setter earned All-America honors as she was named to the third team and earned AVCA National Freshman of the Year honors last year.
This was Prince's first All-America honor, as the middle was a transfer from Washington State that joined the team for the 2004 season. Prince hit .411, the second-highest hitting percentage for a season in UH history, with 3.39 blocks and 1.63 kills per game on the year. She also had eight matches in which she hit .500 or better during the season.
This is the seventh-straight year that UH had at least one player honored, having a first-teamer in each of those seasons, dating back to 1998. This is also the third-straight year that multiple Rainbow Wahine were named to the AVCA All-America teams. The two awards push UH's total count to 40 awards and 22 different athletes that can be called AVCA All-Americans.
Ohio State's Stacey Gordan and Stanford's Ogonna Nnamani both earned their fourth AVCA All-America honors. Nebraska's Sarah Pavan was named the National Freshman of the Year.
