DENVER SMUs Colt Knost and San Jose States Carmina Calle have been selected as the mens and womens Western Athletic Conference Golfers of the Month for October.

Knost, a sophomore from Pilot Point, Texas, played in three events in October, posting a scoring average of 69.86. He earned medalist honors at the Club Grove Invitational in Malibu, Calif. He followed that event with a second-place finish at the University Club Intercollegiate in Baton Rouge, La. His strong play helped lead SMU to a seven-stroke win over a tough field, including No. 1 Auburn and a school-record tournament low of 825.

Calle, a junior from Bogota, Columbia, won her first collegiate tournament with a three-under par 141 total at the Heather Farr Memorial in Broomfield, Colo. She was the only player in the 80-player field to finish under par. She shot a final-round three-under par 68, the low round score in the tournament. It was her first under par round score as a major college player. She helped the Spartans to a 19-stroke team victory.
