DENVER SMU guard Bryan Hopkins has been named the Western Athletic Conference mens basketball player of the week for December 20-26.
Hopkins, a junior from Dallas, Texas (Lincoln HS), scored 32 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out five assists in just 26 minutes of play in a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Monday. He was 8-of-11 from three-point range and made all six of his free throw attempts. The eight three-pointers set a SMU and Moody Coliseum record. The 32 points were the most by a WAC player this season. It is Hopkins second career WAC Player of the Week award as he was also honored last week.
The other nominations were sophomore guard Eric Lane, Boise State; sophomore guard JaVance Coleman, Fresno State; sophomore guard Matt Gibson, Hawaii; senior forward Kevinn Pinkney, Nevada; junior guard Giovanni St. Amant, UTEP; and junior center Anthony Price, Tulsa.
