Nevada and Rice Fall in NCAA Volleyball Tournament

Nevada and Rice both fell in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Championship. Nevada lost to Wichita State in three games. Rice fell to Michigan in four games.

Nevada had its season come to an end falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Lincoln, Neb., 3-0 to Wichita State(25-5). The Shockers swept the Wolf Pack by scores of 30-16, 30-24, and 30-20.

In game one WSU jumped out to a 7-2 lead and the Pack were never able to recover falling 30-16. Nevada hit just .133 compared to the Shockers .394 attack percentage. Sophomore Carly Sorensen had a team high three kills in the first game.

In its first-ever NCAA championship appearance, the Rice volleyball team fell to Michigan 31-29, 24-30, 30-23, 30-20 on Friday in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Volleyball Championships in Austin despite six players hitting double-figure kills.

The loss ends the Owls phenomenal season at 25-5 for a school record .833 winning percentage.

Senior Rebeca Pazo led the balanced Rice attack with 14 kills to go along with a team-high 15 digs. Senior Lindsey Carter and sophomore Tessa Kuykendall each posted 12 kills, and senior Rebecca Kainz added 11. Juniors Kristina Hoban and Olaya Pazo finished out the scoring with 10 each.
