DENVER Hawaiis Melanie Schlanger has been named the Western Athletic Conference swimming and diving Athlete of the Week.
Schlanger, a freshman from Buderim, QLD, Australia, posted her fastest times of the season at the University of Texas Invitational over the weekend. She timed in at 22.95 in the 50 free, 49.35 in the 100 free which is a new Hawaii record, and owns the team's best time in the 200 free (1:50.16). Schlangers time in the 100 free (49.35) was UH's only automatic qualifying time in the meet. Besides her new record in the 100 free, she is now second on the UH all-time lists in the 50 free and fourth in the 200 free.
