DENVER SMUs Kit Carson was named the Western Athletic Conferences womens tennis Player of the Week.
Carson, a senior from Hillsboro Beach, Fla. (Texas A&M), went 3-0 on the week in singles, picking up a win at No. 3 singles on Feb. 10 at TCU and winning back-to-back days over the weekend at No. 2 singles as the Ponies went 1-2 on the three-match road trip. Carson also teamed up with fellow Mustang Svetlana Kouzmenko to go 2-1 on the week as the team's No. 1 doubles tandem. The duo's only loss came Feb. 14 to Marshall's No. 14 ranked team of Ashley Kroh and Jessica Johnson, 8-6.
With her impressive week, Carson improves her dual record to 4-2 on the year and her overall mark at 7-6. With her 10-5 overall mark in doubles with teammate Kouzmenko this year, Carson has moved into a tie for fifth on SMU's all-time career doubles wins list. Carson needs four singles victories now to move into SMU's top 10 all-time singles winners.
