DENVER Rice infielder Adam Morris and Hawaii right-handed pitcher Ricky Bauer have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 9-15.

Morris, a junior from Conroe, Texas (Coppell HS), hit .500 (4-8), drove in a team-high five runs and scored twice as Rice won two of its three games last week. Three of his four hits went for extra bases as he had a triple, a double and a grand slam, the latter two coming against Kansas State yesterday. Morris had a .556 on-base percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage for the week.

It is Morris first career WAC Player of the Week award.

Bauer, a junior from Kaneohe, Hawaii (Mid-Pacific Institute), pitched eight innings, allowing one unearned run and six hits while striking out four and walking none in a 14-6 win over Florida International on Friday. Bauer faced the minimum for the first six innings and has not allowed an earned run in his last 15 innings.

It is Bauers first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award.

Other player of the week nominations included: junior designated hitter Nathan Thurber, Hawaii; and junior third baseman Carlos Madrid, Nevada.

Additional pitcher of the week nominations included: sophomore Chris Scott, Nevada; and sophomore Matt Ueckert, Rice.
